Project Overview

In October 2025, Catten Industries engaged Ryonex to install an automated chemical dosing system and upgrade the facility’s dust collector. These enhancements improved chemical concentration control and process consistency, and the installation of the RMCS 7000 CFM open-faced dust collector created a cleaner, safer powder coating environment by reducing airborne and excess powder and minimising the risk of contamination.

The Challenge

Continuing to operate without an automated chemical dosing system posed significant risks to product quality and process control. Manual dosing increased the likelihood of inconsistent chemical levels, leading to variations in coating quality and reduced performance of the finished product. Implementing an automated system was essential to stabilise chemical concentrations and maintain consistent product standards.

Operating with insufficient dust collection posed risks to workplace safety, cleanliness, and product quality. Employees were exposed to higher levels of airborne and excess powder within the coating area, impacting both safety and overall environment quality, while the powder application process faced an increased risk of contamination. Upgrading the dust collector was necessary to reduce airborne particles, minimise contamination risk, and create a safer, cleaner working environment.

Our Solution

Ryonex identified critical issues within the chemical management process, along with performance limitations in the existing dust collector system. A comprehensive assessment of the equipment, operational processes, and facility requirements was conducted to determine the root causes. Based on these findings, Ryonex implemented a tailored solution to effectively address and resolve the challenges.

The solution included:

  • Automated chemical dosing system
  • RMCS 7000 CFM dust collector

The upgrades were expertly installed and seamlessly integrated into existing operations, ensuring minimal disruption to production. This solution enhanced process control, improved cleanliness in the powder coating area, and delivered a safer, more efficient working environment for employees.

Implementation Highlights

  • Project delivered: October 2025
  • Location: Bayswater, Victoria
  • RMCS Open-faced dust collector and an automated chemical dosing system supplied and installed
  • Training and support provided for systems handover
  • Immediate efficiency gains, improved operator satisfaction, and a cleaner, safer working environment.

The Results

  • The implementation of chemical automation and the upgraded dust collector have delivered measurable environmental and workplace improvements.
  • These initiatives have reduced chemical consumption while improving compliance with regulatory standards and workplace conditions.
  • Since implementing chemical automation, chemical usage has decreased by approximately 14%, generating costs savings while significantly reducing the environmental impact associated with trade waste discharge. Lower chemical volumes entering the waste stream contribute to more sustainable operational practises.
  • Additionally, the installation of a dust collector has brought the facility into compliance with Australian Standards. The system effectively captures airborne particles and excess powder in the powder coating area, improving air quality and creating a cleaner, safer, and more comfortable working environment for employees.
